On September 9 hurricane Olaf arrived in the southern Baja. This brought sustained wind speeds of 155 kmh and gusts to 185, Olaf made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane near San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, at about 9:00 p.m. Once over land, Olaf was downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane before being degraded again to a tropical storm.

THE STORM CAUSED SIGNIFICANT FLOODING AND HAS LEFT MANY WITHOUT ELECTRICITY, WATER AND FOOD.

Many ask about how they can help - The International Community Foundation (ICF) partners in both the municipalities of Los Cabos and La Paz are responding to the needs of those in vulnerable communities. ICF is aligning with the BCS Food Security Alliance (ASA), who have been checking in with their network of food assistance groups across Los Cabos and La Paz to assess needs. They have prioritized four groups in Cabo that are most prone to flood damage to support with potable water and ingredients for hot meals as residents return home from shelters. There has been material damage to homes and securing water continues to be a challenge in some places, however, those who have connected the ASA and ICFare safe and healthy.

Your donation to the Baja California Disaster Relief Fund will support groups providing emergency food, water and shelter to people impacted by the hurricane.
